Dignified transfer
Brig. Gen. Kenneth Roberts (from left), special assistant for the director of the Army National Guard; Gen. Carrol H. "Howie" Chandler, vice chief of staff of the Air Force; and Col. Manson Morris, 436th Airlift Wing commander; Senior Airman Dawn Tunnell, transfer vehicle guide; and members from the 3rd U.S. Infantry, The Old Guard, return from the dignified transfer of two fallen servicemembers of Operation Enduring Freedom March 12, 2010, at Dover Air Force Base, Del. A dignified transfer is the process where, upon the return from the theater of operations to the U.S., a fallen military member is transferred from the aircraft to a waiting vehicle and then to the Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center. The center staff is charged with fulfilling the nation's sacred commitment of ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen and care, service and support to their families. General Chandler and his wife, Eva-Marie, toured the center, participated in a dignified transfer and met family members of the fallen. (U.S. Air Force photo/Jason Minto)
