A dignified transfer is the process where, upon the return from the theater of operations to the U.S., a fallen military member is transferred from the aircraft to a waiting vehicle and then to the Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations Center. The center staff is charged with fulfilling the nation's sacred commitment of ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen and care, service and support to their families. Staff Sgt. Isata Tucker, a manager on duty at the Fisher House for Families of the Fallen, on Dover Air Force Base, Del., manages the facility on Dec. 12, 2016, ensuring that the property is always ready for use. Staff Sgt. Tucker survived a war in her former country of Sierra Leone, Africa. She recieved her U.S. citizenship on the same day she graduated from Air Force Basic Military Training in 2013.
