Kevin Smith, head of Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations' Marine Corps Liaison Team, describes to U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Landon Beaty, a service liaison, the 1983 Beirut, Lebanon, incident listed on the memorial wall inside the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs, Dover Air Force Base, Del. The wall commemorates 65 mass fatality incidents handled by the Port Mortuary over the past 45 years. Smith was on board the U.S.S. New Jersey, which supported U.S. operations in Lebanon, including the Beirut barracks bombing that killed more than 200 Marines and a Sailor from Smith's battleship.
