Moments later, Staff Sgt. Phillip A. Myers, of Hopewell, Va., was lowered from the aircraft and transported to a mortuary transfer vehicle. Sergeant Meyers died April 4 near Helmand Province, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.
