DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Delaware -- Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass visited Air Force Mortuary Affairs Jan. 7, 2021, to get a closer look at their sacred mission, and gain an understanding of what goes into accomplishing it.

This marked the first official visit to Dover Air Force Base since assuming responsibility as the 19th CMSAF.

“We were very excited to bring Chief Bass in and show her what we do to make this mission happen,” said Col. Brian Eddy, AFMAO commander. “It is our mission and privilege to fulfill our nation’s sacred commitment of ensuring dignity, honor and respect to the fallen while providing care, service and support to their families.”

During her visit, Bass gained perspective on the mission process, from initial notification to sending the fallen to their final resting place.

“It has been an honor to see the incredible professionalism and dedication of our Airmen at AFMAO,” said Bass. “Their mission is a solemn one, but they shoulder it with the dignity and respect our fallen brothers and sisters deserve.”
